There are many things to learn in order to make life easier etc. One of them is AI. It has a learning curve, but it is undoubtedly a tool that can help one in many ways.
I have now just finished a project where I translated almost all of my poems from German into English. To translate a poem can be tricky to say the least when you deal with rhymes and specially when it is written in a certain dialect.
AI, well Chat GPT, understands my Berlin tongue. Can you imagine that?
Just before the Berlin Wall came down I’d written with the Berlin tongue, a poem about it. I thought it would be “untranslatable”. Boy was I wrong. ChatGPT did it with the first try and I had tears of joy. This made my day and I thought I will give you all a taste of it. Here comes –
“Mother Berlin” – Created in August 1989, just months before the Berlin Wall fell
Berlin, I was born in your embrace,
And in you, I lost my place.
You won’t ever get me out of here—
You’re my start and my frontier.
You heard my first cry, loud and strong,
Watched my steps, one, two, along,
As I strolled through your streets.
Half I love you, half I curse your name,
You’re brilliantly broken, yet bold just the same.
Here we run into walls, again and again,
Instead of just seeing they’re not even there.
Berlin, drank milk straight from the can,
And for a penny, bought a candy hand,
Or a licorice stick so black,
We stormed the streets, loud, in packs.
We had our fun, day in, day out,
Messing ‘round, with noise and shouts,
Till church bells rang at six, no doubt.
Half I love you, half I curse your name,
You’re brilliantly broken, yet bold just the same.
Here we run into walls, again and again,
Instead of just walking around them with flair.
Berlin, I learned to see your lows,
When long fingers reached for me below.
But also felt your soaring highs,
When all I craved was warmth nearby.
Step by step, I grew up slow,
And you, you grew right there in tow.
Your “stone valley”—now home for many folks.
Half I love you, half I curse your name,
You’re brilliantly broken, yet bold just the same.
Here we run into walls, again and again,
Instead of just glancing and walking on by.
Berlin, I call you home, no doubt,
Though half of you, I’m still figuring out.
I’ve seen half of your many sights,
And understand half of your highs and plights.
You’re a city where the streets burn hot,
Half with money, half with not.
Well, I live in you, and that’s the plot.
Half I love you, half I curse your name,
You’re brilliantly broken, yet bold just the same.
Here we run into walls, again and again,
Instead of just going right over the top.
Berlin, you’re a city whole and split,
I love you, but man, I’ve had enough of it,
Tired of trying to “get” your walls,
Wishing I could just cross whenever I call.
Berlin, you’re left and right combined,
Two sides of a city intertwined—
Show me this madness for what it is.
Because—
Half I love you, half I curse your name,
You’re brilliantly broken, yet bold just the same.
Let’s curse this wall and tear it down,
So we can all walk free, around town.
Wonderful! I haven’t yet used Ai or Chat GPT for my poems or writings, but seeing this inspires me to do so. At the moment I am mostly making ads and art. Thinking about what I might be able to do with the Videos that i also make. Great work here falconhigh!
Thank you for your comment. The poem itself, I didn’t use any AI, it was before that time anyhow, but to translate it…I’m happy it worked so well.Would love to know how you are using it.
